Thanks to its strategic location on the Straits of Malacca, Melaka became the center for the trade of spices in its early history. The Portuguese arrived in 1511 and ruled Melaka for 130 years until the Dutch took over in 1641. The Portuguese descendants settled in different parts of Melaka outside of the Fortress and one of the places was Praya Lane, in the suburbs of Banda Hilir. The word ‘Praya’ means ‘beach’ in our local creole language.
Come join me on this virtual experience, yes, it is LIVE ON-SITE (not a webinar or pre-recorded) and we will get to engage into interesting conversation about the history and lifestyle at Praya Lane. To sweeten the experience, we will have a virtual "yum-cha" (tea-time) with a lovely family who is still living in a 100-year-old residential property.
A heritage walkabout about Malaysian Portuguese and the first settlement that is worth preserving for more generations to come!
This virtual experience is available on daily at 4.30pm, Malaysia time (GMT+8).
