In the turbulent world we live in, has heritage been left behind? Well, that's not in the case of Melaka! I look forward to sharing the untold stories and guide you to discover, learn and experience the vibrant heritage of Melaka today.
Ranging from historically significant monuments and buildings to explorations of its landscape, this carefully-curated heritage walk will allow you to have a glimpse of Melaka past and guess what, they are all within the radious of 1-2km!
This is not an ordinary walkabout experience to Melaka. This walkabout experience weaves together history, cultures, architecture and cuisine to tell a more multifaceted story of Melaka, once a great trading port fought over by various colonial powers, resulting in a rich heritage that is still salient today, resulting in a multicultural city reflecting its cosmopolitan journey over the centuries. Journey along the old streets of Melaka and past its ruins, where its rich history, reflecting hundreds of years of Asian and European influence, remains alive and evolving to this day.
The walkabout will start at Middlesburg Bastion by the Melaka River and proceed to the Dutch Square which consists of the Stadthuys, the oldest Dutch colonial building in South East Asia. Then ascends up to St Paul Hill, to visit the ruins of St Paul Church, the oldest Catholic church in South East Asia and the oldest European building east of India.
As we descend from the hill, we passed by Melaka Sultanate Palace, a wooden replica of the 15th century Malay Sultanate, Memorial of Independence, a museum that displays the journey of Malaysia from independence and its modern development and the iconic Porta de Santiago, part of the fortress of Fortaleza de Melaka built by the Portuguese, reinforced by the Dutch and destroyed by the British. From Porta de Santiago, we will walk by many colonial buildings along Fort Road and proceed to Heeren Street which was once known as Dutch Village and Millionaires Row.
