Hosted by Tajuddin Idrus a.k.a Dean - History Enthusiast

Hi, my name is Tajuddin or you can call me "Dean". I was born in Kedah, a northern side o... f Peninsular Malaysia but grew up in Kuala Lumpur since 1970s and now residing in Wangsa Maju, about 10km from Malaysia's most recognizable and popular landmark, Petronas Twin Tower! I used to work in various multi-national companies focusing on telecommunication industry where my last engagement was based overseas before I quit the corporate world back in 2013 to pursue something that offers work-life balance and chose becoming a freelance tourist guide for my beloved country, Malaysia. I love history and actively involved in a few associations related to culture heritage, such as the Malaysian Cultural Group, Malaysia Historical Society, The Heritage of Malaysia Trust and Malaysian Branch of The Royal Asiatic Society (MBRAS). Come join me in this virtual experience and find out the unheard stories and origin of current capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur! Show More

What we Will do

My goal is to leave you with the best authentic experience of Kuala Lumpur, tales from the past, unheard stories through our casual and informative session at the comfort of your living room.

Seeing through the eyes of a local especially from someone who loves history will enable you to feel and breathe the Old Kuala Lumpur starting from the early 19th century to its current metropolitan state today.

In this virtual experience, I will be taking you a route starting from the River Confluence, covering various interesting spots of KL with real photos and untold stories from the past and trivia. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to learn a bit of Jawi, an Arabic script that are commonly used in writing during the olden days and be presented with a digital postcard with your name written in Jawi.

This tour is specially tailored not only to guest planning to visit Kuala Lumpur but also anyone who is interested to know about Malaysians lifestyle back in old days 1800s to 1900s! Most of the stories shared are carefully consolidated from various well known historians like J.M Gullick, S.M. Middlebrook and Khoo Kay Kim.

Had a good virtual tour with Dean. Interactive session and good source of visual for audience to see old pictures instead of only commentary comparing to live tour.

Wow! Very informative and easy to understand presentation. Although I knew the history of Kuala Lumpur but the way Tajuddin present it, surprise me. Learn extra facts about old and new Kuala Lumpur. I do recommend those who love heritage of Kuala Lumpur, to purchase this Virtual Time Travel. You do not have to be on site, just sit-back at home. Looking forward for the next two series. Worth it, keep up the good work En Tajuddin.

I found Tajuddin's presentation on KL really worthwhile. I knew about bits and pieces of KL's history, heard of Yap Ah Loy, settlement at the confluence of the two rivers and so on. But this presentation put it all in perspective. Breaking it into the three time periods really helped, because although they are separate they really flow together. I feel I have a deeper sense of KL's development now. The visuals were so informative and helped anchor the information. Tajuddin had done a great job of rounding up information and pictures to enrich my understanding. At my age I would never last through a real walking tour of KL so this was an excellent experience for me, all in the comfort of my living room! :) Thank you, Tajuddin, for providing well researched insight into KL, my home for the last 52 years! I thoroughly enjoyed this virtual tour by Tajuddin! It was informative, well researched and nicely presented. The carefully selected old photos, interesting facts and untold stories brought me to the Old KL at the comfort of my home. I got to keep a beautiful electronic postcard of KL, too. Loving it! I highly recommend this virtual tour to those who want to know or experience the Old KL. Thank you Tajuddin. All the best.
